We had dinner at Yār on the Lake in Westlake Village last evening. The new owners have transformed the restaurant while still maintaining the incredible lake view. Our server, Amos, was incredible. He was persistent in service, very friendly, and very attentive. So was one of the men that assisted (sorry I did not get his name). Try Yār. You will not be disappointed. Besides the stellar staff, the food was exceptional. The YAR HOUSEMADE BREADS is a must starter: Crispy Lavash | Rosemary Olive Focaccia | Ciabatta Early Harvest Extra Virgin & Vermont Cultured Butter If you have not had peaches with Burrata, you are in for a treat. BURRATA & FARMER’S MARKET PEACHES Farmer’s Market Peaches | Balik Tomatoes | Arugula Pistou | EVOO | Marcona Almond & Black Sesame Seed Brittle | Italian Burrata GF And the saffron broth in this dish with all the seafood is amazing. SEAFOOD PASTA Little Neck | Calamari | Prawns | Salt Spring Island Mussels | Tomato Saffron Broth Looking for beef? Well the filet was perfect along with the great sides. Loved dining at this beautiful restaurant; a true hidden gem. The new decor and ambiance is modern and clean, yet warm and welcoming. The menu is diverse and unique; portions are just right. Look forward to taking friends who have never been and make new memories on the lake!

We had an incredible experience here. The first thing you notice is the stunning view, which creates the perfect backdrop for a special meal. The customer service was top-tier from start to finish—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. As for the food, every dish was super delicious and clearly prepared with high-quality ingredients. A total 10/10 and highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable night out.

I live in Los Angeles, and so traveling beyond the intersection of the 101 and 405 is something like leaving planet Earth for me. I was invited by friends to try this new restaurant in Westlake Village, and I have to say that I am so happy that I sat through the traffic and made the drive to Yar. The food is unbelievably good, and the vibe is amazing. It literally felt like I had gone on vacation, and sitting next to the lake, brought about such a sense of peace and made for an incredible night. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I am beginning to realize that places like this that aren’t in Los Angeles but close enough for a short drive (absent traffic) are something like what people in San Francisco experience when they go to NAPA. Thank you to everyone at Yar for an unforgettable night.

From the moment we walked in, it was clear this place is something truly special. This beautiful new Mediterranean restaurant, which just opened a few nights ago, already feels like a hidden gem you almost want to keep to yourself. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning. The interior design is elegant yet warm, with every detail thoughtfully curated—from the lighting to the textures and decor. It strikes that perfect balance between modern sophistication and cozy charm. And then there’s the view… overlooking Westlake, it’s simply breathtaking. As the sun sets and the lights reflect on the water, the entire space transforms into something magical. What makes this restaurant even more special is that it’s family-owned. You can feel the love, pride, and care in every corner. The hospitality is genuine and heartfelt—the kind that makes you feel like you’re not just a guest, but truly welcomed. The crew is attentive, friendly, and incredibly passionate about what they do, which elevates the entire experience. And the food… absolutely outstanding. Every dish we tried was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of rich Mediterranean flavors. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients and put real thought into each plate. From the appetizers to the main courses, everything was perfectly balanced and delicious. This is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience. A place where amazing food, incredible service, and a stunning view come together in the most effortless way. Whether you’re going for a special occasion or just a memorable night out, this place delivers on every level. Wishing this wonderful family-owned gem all the success—it truly deserves it. I can’t wait to go back.

Yar which used to be Zen Bistro was totally remodeled and is quite beautifully done. The restaurant opened around April of this year and creates that lakefront ambiance that many yearn for. Mason the hostess was very welcoming and took us to a lovely table at water's edge. Cree was our amazing server and was professional, kind, transparent and efficient. We started with bottled water and their amazing eggplant appetizer which is simply delicious. Octavio assisted Cree with bussing the table and was also kind and professional. We ordered our entrees with my wife selecting the burger and I had the king salmon entree. The food took too much time to get to our table but was delicious once it arrived. I was in the restaurant business in the 80s and understand growing pains and delays but we did see a few patrons that were angry and a few even left. I did question what I observed and found out that with such a unique menu that the kitchen is a bit small for prep and delivery. If you are patient and just want to sip wine and take in the ambiance of the lake, the wait may be okay but it was just a little too long for comfort. Keep in mind that I am being very sincere in stating that the service, ambiance and the food is quite good but the wait due to kitchen staff prep and delivery of menu items takes this amazing restaurant down a star or two. I am being gracious with 4 stars overall. I also ordered the Naan with assorted dips and their lamb meatballs to go as I am a foodie and fair critic. Now with this place not being very busy I do plan to return and see what a busy Friday or Saturday night is like relative to kitchen prep and delivery of entrees during a full house experience. The wait is at 3 stars and the service 4 stars relative to attention, apologetic sincerity regarding delays and menu knowledge. The food is a 4 as the burger was slightly overcooked. We will ofcourse try this restaurant again in the near future as we realize the room for growth in areas noted and hope for a 5 star experience as this restaurant improves in areas that I believe the management is keenly aware of. We made the drive all the way from Orange County to try Yār on the Lake, and it was absolutely worth it. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere stood out, peaceful lake views, a relaxed vibe, and a setting that feels both upscale and welcoming. The food was the real highlight. Every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with attention to detail. You can tell there’s real care behind the menu. The service was also excellent, friendly, attentive, and genuinely focused on making the experience enjoyable. It’s not often that a place lives up to the hype, especially when you’re driving that far, but this one delivered. Definitely a spot we’ll be coming back to.
